Kathmandu. Nepal Telecom has brought its Business Intelligence (BI) System into full commercial operation nearly five years after purchasing the platform, which had previously drawn criticism from the Office of the Auditor General for remaining unused.
The state-owned telecom operator issued a Provisional Acceptance Certificate for the system on November 27, 2025, and has since integrated it as the organization's central analytical platform.
Nepal Telecom purchased the system on November 13, 2020, for approximately Rs 316.7 million (USD 2.661 million). The project had faced scrutiny for years due to delays in installation and operation, raising concerns about revenue assurance and effective utilization of public resources.
In its 63rd annual report, the Office of the Auditor General noted that the equipment had remained unused for more than five years and urged the company to bring it into operation to minimize the risk of potential revenue losses.
According to Nepal Telecom, the system is now fully functional and is being used regularly for a range of business and technical analytics.
What does the system do?
The Business Intelligence System provides analytical reports and dashboards to various departments and directorates within Nepal Telecom, supporting data-driven decision-making across the organization.
The platform enables analysis of call trends and service quality, revenue patterns and assurance, customer preferences for services and packages, and executive-level monitoring through real-time dashboards.
It also provides both real-time and historical insights into customer behavior, service usage, and network performance. Nepal Telecom says the system is capable of generating customized reports based on the operational needs of different units.
170 Virtual Machines in Operation
Nepal Telecom said 170 virtual machines (VMs) are currently operating under the Business Intelligence cloud infrastructure.
In addition to the BI System, other critical applications, including the Revenue Assurance System (RAS), are also running on the same cloud infrastructure. The company said these systems provide the computing capacity and analytical foundation required for a range of business and technical operations.
According to Nepal Telecom, the full deployment of the Business Intelligence System has strengthened data-driven decision-making, revenue assessment capabilities, and ongoing digital transformation efforts.
The company expects the system to play a significant role in improving operational efficiency and business performance after years of delay and substantial investment.
