IME Pay and Khalti Officially Merged: Here’s How to Link Your Wallets and What’s in it for the customers

Kathmandu: As of July 17, Nepal’s two largest digital wallet companies, IME Pay and Khalti, have officially merged. The merged wallet now operates under the name ‘Khalti’. The company has already completed the data transfer process.

With the merger, Khalti’s verified user base has reportedly crossed 5 million, establishing it as Nepal’s largest digital wallet in terms of both paid-up capital and user base.

Do you use both Khalti and IME Pay, or only IME Pay? You might be wondering what this means for you. Here's how to link your wallets and what changes to expect.

If you're only a Khalti user, you don’t need to do anything. Features that were previously exclusive to IME Pay are now integrated into the Khalti app through a recent update.

But if you use IME Pay only, or both apps, you’ll need to merge your IME Pay account with Khalti. The company has provided a direct option for this. Once merged, your wallet balance, interest, and reward points from IME Pay will automatically transfer to Khalti.

How to Merge IME Pay with Khalti

  • Open the IME Pay app and tap ‘Merge Now’ on the banner that says “Merge your IME Pay Wallet with Khalti Wallet today.”
If you're merging from Khalti, tap the IME Pay logo at the top right corner of the screen.
  • A new page will open explaining the benefits. Tap the red arrow at the bottom right.
  • You’ll see your account details—name, phone number, email, date of birth, and ID. Tap ‘Proceed’.
  • You’ll be redirected to the Khalti app. Tap ‘Proceed’ again.
  • Enter the OTP sent to your registered mobile number and tap ‘Continue’.
  • If your data matches, you'll be notified that your account is ready to migrate.
If not, a page will appear asking you to submit a request for manual verification. This may take some time. A company representative will contact you according to your request.
  • Once the data matches, verify all the details and tap ‘Confirm’.
  • You’ll then see a summary of the data being migrated—wallet balance, KYC, transaction history, and reward points. Tap ‘Confirm’ again.
  • A popup agreement will appear. Tick both checkboxes and tap ‘Confirm’.
  • Tap ‘Start the Journey’ to complete the process.

So far, there haven’t been any major changes to the user interface, but new features are expected to roll out. For now, IME Pay’s interest display is visible next to your Khalti profile icon. More updates and changes may follow in the coming weeks.
