Supreme Court IT Infrastructure Destroyed by Arson Back in Operation, Website Reactivated After 48 Days

Kathmandu:  The Supreme Court’s information technology system, which was shut down due to arson and vandalism during the Gen-Z movement, has been restored after 48 days.

When protesters set fire to the Supreme Court building in Ramshahpath, the digital infrastructure inside the building was completely destroyed. As the system has now been reactivated, the Supreme Court’s website is also back online.

The court had developed a backup system in Hetauda as a recovery site. However, that system was also disrupted after the infrastructure there was damaged during the protests. During this period, the court had to process some writs, including habeas corpus, only in written form.

According to the Supreme Court, the information system infrastructure became functional again after successfully recovering the digital data by Monday. From Tuesday, the court began preparations to provide case details once again through digital means.

The court stated that with the website back online, it is now easier to access online case registration, case lists, full texts of decided cases, and procedural details. After the restoration of the main server, details of high and district courts can also be viewed more easily.

Along with the Supreme Court, the server of the Department of Transport Management was also damaged due to arson and vandalism during the Gen-Z movement. Although the Supreme Court’s server has now been restored, the department’s server remains non-operational.
