From AI Startups to Robotics Labs: How Techspire College Is Redefining IT Education in Nepal

Kathmandu. Techspire College in New Baneshwor is positioning itself as more than a conventional academic institution, offering students an ecosystem designed to turn ideas into technology products and startups.
From the moment students enter the campus, they are introduced to the Office of Incubation and Innovation, where aspiring entrepreneurs receive mentorship, technical guidance, and seed funding to develop their ideas. According to the college, four to five student teams have already received seed funding over the past two years.
One of the success stories emerging from the incubation program is Barta AI, developed by sixth-semester student Bipin Pandey and his team. The AI-powered solution has significantly reduced the time required for manual calling tasks, completing work that previously took around 10 hours in just 30 to 40 minutes.
Another student, Swarnima Ganjakar, is preparing to launch Citical, an enterprise and marketplace platform tailored to Nepal's salon and tattoo industry.
Informal Learning and Student Support
The college has also introduced dedicated spaces aimed at improving student learning and career development.
‘Future Hub’ is a space that provides students with career counseling in a relaxed setting designed to encourage open discussions rather than formal interviews. Meanwhile, Learning Hubs located throughout the campus offer collaborative spaces where students can study, exchange ideas, and work on projects together.

Industry-Oriented Curriculum and Global Certifications
According to Vice Principal Bijay Babu Regmi, students begin studying non-credit courses such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Cybersecurity, and DevOps from their first semester.
To prepare students for global careers, Techspire has partnered with international technology organizations including AWS Academy, Oracle Academy, CompTIA, and Microsoft.
The college has also signed memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with 30 to 35 IT companies, enabling industry professionals to mentor students and supervise practical projects from the second semester onward, helping bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry requirements.
Robotics and AI Research Facilities
Techspire has established a dedicated robotics laboratory where students are working on advanced engineering projects.
Among the ongoing initiatives is the development of InMoov, an open-source full-body humanoid robot being built using components produced with the college's 3D printer. The project is expected to be completed in the coming months.
Students are also developing a heavy-lift drone capable of carrying payloads of up to 10 kilograms.
Adjacent to the robotics lab is the Digital Den, which provides students with round-the-clock access to shared GPU infrastructure for artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and other computationally intensive projects.

Scholarships and Career Outlook
According to Chief Executive Officer Ashish Prasai, the college has announced scholarships for 100 students, with some recipients receiving fully funded scholarships.
Highlighting Nepal's growing technology sector, Prasai encouraged aspiring IT students to focus on developing practical skills rather than simply earning a degree.
"Nearly 100,000 people currently work in Nepal's IT industry, and that number could reach 300,000 within the next four to five years," he said. "Students should not study IT solely for a certificate. Continuous skill development, updated curricula, and internationally recognized certifications will be key to succeeding in the industry."
The college says its emphasis on practical learning, innovation, startup incubation, and industry collaboration aims to prepare graduates for both Nepal's growing IT sector and the global technology market.
