Fact Check: Viral Video Falsely Shows Gyanendra Shahi Confessing to Drunken Remarks and Taking Money From KP Oli

Kathmandu. A video of Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) politician and Member of Parliament Gyan Bahadur (Gyanendra) Shahi is currently circulating widely across social media platforms. Shahi has been in the spotlight over remarks made during a Facebook Live while on a visit to Japan. Amid this, a TikTok video has surfaced claiming that the MP later admitted he had made those remarks while under the influence of alcohol.
A fact-check by TechPana's Fact Check Desk found that the claim is misleading. The viral video was created by manipulating the original footage using AI technology to spread misinformation.

On Monday, July 22, 2026, a TikTok user named 'LB Bhujel' uploaded a video with the text overlay: "I liked this person, but now they are correcting what they said in yesterday's live..." As of the time of publishing this fact check, the video had received more than 22,000 likes, 1,261 comments, had been saved by over 1,500 accounts, shared around 2,900 times, and viewed more than 700,000 times. Investigation
A reverse image search of the video uploaded by the TikTok account 'LB Bhujel' led to the same clip being posted on YouTube by a channel named 'Community-g3m.' Check out the original video and screenshot.
A keyword search using "Gyanendra Shahi Raksi" also found the same video posted on Facebook by a user named 'Sameer KC.' Check out the video and screenshot.
Further analysis of these accounts found another video posted by 'LB Bhujel', in which Shahi appears to say that he drank alcohol thinking it would be like that from Humla and Jumla, but that it was apparently different in Japan.
During the analysis, the Gemini logo was clearly visible at the bottom of the viral video in which Shahi supposedly admits he was speaking under the influence of alcohol.
When the video was tested using Gemini AI, it was confirmed that the clip was 100 percent generated using Google's AI tools.
Meanwhile, in the original Facebook Live by MP Shahi, which has been circulating since the night of Saturday, July 18, 2026, there is no mention of alcohol anywhere.
Following allegations that he had targeted Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) supporters after drinking alcohol, Shahi instead published a sarcastic Facebook post responding to the accusations. Check out the post.
