Kathmandu: The latest results of the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) have been disappointing. According to the results of the fifth semester Diploma/Certificate level published on Wednesday, the pass rate in the regular civil engineering program is alarmingly low.
More than 72 percent of students who took the regular civil engineering examination failed. In Koshi Province alone, over 95 percent of examinees did not pass.
Out of 639 students from 31 institutions in Koshi Province who took the regular civil engineering exam, only 30 passed, a pass rate of just 4.69 percent, meaning 95.31 percent failed.
The situation is similarly poor in other provinces. In Madhesh Province, only 93 out of 485 students (19.18%) passed. The pass rate in Lumbini Province is 30.60 percent, and in Sudurpaschim 31.36 percent. Gandaki Province recorded the best performance: 129 out of 278 students (46.91%) passed.

Other programs show mixed outcomes. In Agricultural Engineering, only 9 out of 43 students (20.93%) passed the regular exam.

Student backlash after results
The results, which show more than two-thirds of students failing, have sparked anger on social media. Students have demanded an immediate re-check of answer sheets, calling the results unreliable and flawed. Many fear losing a year if the fifth semester results stand.
In Biratnagar, students of Metropolitan Polytechnic School in Morang have submitted a letter to the CTEVT Sunsari office, demanding an urgent re-check. All 27 students from the school failed, prompting organized protests. Students have now taken the issue online, demanding answers from CTEVT. The council has yet to respond to the controversy.
