Two Arrested in Crypto Trade; Transactions Totaled Over Rs 7.4 Million

Kathmandu: Police have arrested two people on charges of illegally trading cryptocurrency. A special team deployed from the District Police Range, Kathmandu, took them into custody on Saturday for being involved in transactions worth more than Rs 7.4 million.
The arrested are Bishal Dangol, 36, of Kathmandu, and Umesh Shrestha, 45, of Morang, who was living in Kathmandu. Based on a special tip-off that they were trading cryptocurrency illegally, a police team arrested them from the Bijuli Bazaar area of Kathmandu at 2 pm on Saturday.
According to Pawan Kumar Bhattarai, Information Officer and Superintendent of Police (SP) at the District Police Range, the initial investigation shows that the accused had traded Rs 7.452 million illegally. Police have also recovered five mobile phones from them.
SP Bhattarai said a detailed investigation is underway after extending their remand for the offense of ‘not using physical currency’.
Police have intensified surveillance and enforcement under a special campaign against illegal cryptocurrency transactions in Nepal. Several people have already been arrested on similar charges.
