‘Ambition Guru College’ that provides jobs to students right from the time they enroll through the Learn and Earn program

Kathmandu: Edtech company ‘Ambition Guru’, which runs hundreds of classes through physical and online means, usually hires 30 to 50 employees every month. However, there has always been a problem in finding the skilled employees the company is looking for.

Since the employees also go abroad for higher education and employment, there is a tendency to leave the company after a short time. On the other hand, students who have completed their bachelor’s degree by paying high fees are also forced to remain unemployed due to the lack of skills required by the industry.

‘Ambition Guru College’ was started on July 2, 2024 to solve this problem, says Prakash Pandey, co-founder and campus head of the college.

Affiliated with Rajshree Janak University, this college offers BSc CSIT, BCA, BBA at the undergraduate level and MBA at the postgraduate level. Although it started teaching only last year, the interest of students has increased significantly, says Pandey.

He said, “All the seats in BSC CSIT have been filled in the new admissions. There are some seats left in other bachelor’s subjects. The entrance exam for admission to MBA has been opened. Students have shown a lot of interest in this too.”

The main attraction of the college: ‘Learn and Earn’ program

Ambition Guru Company employs more than 1,000 employees, 450 of whom are full-time and the rest part-time. As the size of the company continues to grow, there is also a shortage of skilled manpower. To meet this, Ambition Guru College has been providing internships to students under the ‘Learn and Earn’ program since their admission.

Sahara Timalsina, a student of B.Sc. CSIT in the second semester of the college, shared her experience of working under this program since she was admitted in the first semester. She said, “It has been a year since I started working. I am currently working in Ambison Guru’s ‘Student Care Unit’. If students are having difficulty studying, my job is to facilitate them in how to study. This has also improved my communication skills.”

Timalsina, who initially started working part-time, is now working full-time. She said that the ‘Learn and Earn’ program has helped her in raising personal expenses as well as paying college fees.

Similarly, Riwaz Bhusal, who was recently admitted in the first semester of B.Sc. CSIT, has also got a job in Ambison Guru’s Student Care Unit. While his first semester classes are yet to begin. Bhusal said that he received an internship offer as soon as he was admitted to the college.

He said, “Actually, I chose this college after learning about the ‘Learn and Earn’ program. The very next day after I enrolled, I received a call from the college saying that I would be doing an internship. After being selected through an interview, I started working after a week of training.” He expects that working alongside studies will also help in his personality development.

According to Campus Chief Pandey, a ‘placement officer’ has been arranged to select students for the ‘Learn and Earn’ program. After the students are admitted, these officers prepare profiles according to their skills and interests. After that, they help in arranging internships in 20 different departments including Development, AI and Automation, Digital Marketing, Production Unit under Ambition Guru or in other companies according to the students’ interests.

Campus Chief Pandey informed that the starting salary for the interns will be around Rs 13,000. He also said that if the students improve their skills and work as full-time employees, their salary will increase according to KPI. He said, “There are students who have already started earning Rs 45,000 to Rs 60,000 while studying in the second semester. Almost all the first-year students have done internships.”

Pandey said that since the office is open until 10 pm, students have the facility to work from the office or from home as per their convenience.

In addition to theoretical classes, skill development training is also conducted in the college.

According to Pandey, the campus head, all classes are conducted in the morning session till 10 am. After that, training is provided on the skills required in the real industry for three days a week, for one and a half hours. The students can spend the remaining time in internships or full-time jobs.

IT students are provided with different types of training in each semester. Designing is provided in the first semester and training to become a mid-level ‘Python developer’ in the second semester. Various domains of IT are taught in each semester, including web development.

Pandey added, "After completing their studies and starting work, some people experience stress due to differences in their field of interest and the job they have chosen. But our students know what kind of work is available in which domain while they are still studying for their bachelor's degree. They are able to find out what they are interested in and choose a job accordingly."

Similarly, BBA students are taught topics ranging from AI tools used in management, business pitching to investment through training. MBA students, he said, will be prepared to become skilled managers. He said that this arrangement has been made so that students can enter the market as experienced employees after completing four years of study.

Recorded class facility

The theoretical subjects taught in the classroom are recorded and stored in the ‘Gurumantra’ app. Through this, students can review and review what was taught in the class at any time they want.

The app has a ‘digital footprint’ system. Through which the ‘Academic Coordinator’ identifies the weak areas of the students and suggests areas for improvement. Pandey claimed that Ambition Guru College students who are working while studying in this way are achieving excellent results even in universities.

He said, “Our students who have been studying and earning have topped the university. Students who have come for internships after studying in other colleges are being trained by students studying here in the second semester.”

‘Seed Funding’ for those who want to start a startup

The college has made arrangements to provide ‘seed funding’ of up to Rs 1 million per startup to convert 10 excellent ideas of each interest into a business.

Pandey said, “If a student has an idea that can solve any problem in society and has created a framework for it, such ideas can get seed funding. For this, students have to pitch their ideas to the committee formed for seed funding distribution.”

He said that such ideas will be invested in two models: ‘Return of Investment’ and ‘Partnership’. The investment can be returned to the college after a specified time according to the ROI model. Or, informed that the startup company will also have the opportunity to take its business forward with the college as a partner.
