Parsa Police Arrest Two for Impersonating a UK-Based Nepali on Facebook to Scam a Birgunj Resident of Rs 250,000

 

Kathmandu. Two men have been arrested in Parsa for creating fake Facebook and Messenger accounts by impersonating a Nepali working in the United Kingdom and using them to scam a man out of Rs 250,000, police said.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Jasmuddin Ansari of Prasauni Rural Municipality-1 in Bara and 20-year-old Bishal Patel of Bahudarmai Municipality-1 in Parsa, were arrested on Saturday from Birgunj Metropolitan City-8 by a team from the District Police Office, Parsa.

According to police, the pair created fake Facebook and Messenger accounts using the photo of a person from Rautahat who is currently working in London, UK. They then used the fake identity to communicate with 49-year-old Shiv Pujan Baitha of Birgunj Metropolitan City-16.

During the investigation, police found that Ansari and Patel had stayed at Baitha's house and allegedly deceived him into believing he was chatting with the person whose identity had been stolen. Using the fake account, they reportedly defrauded him of Rs 250,000.

Police said both suspects are being investigated on fraud-related charges. The District Court, Parsa, has granted a seven-day remand to continue the investigation.
