114 SIM Cards, 7 Laptops & 4 Servers Seized as Kathmandu Police Arrest Four Over Illegal Online Betting

Kathmandu. Police have arrested four people in Kathmandu on charges of operating an illegal online betting network and facilitating transactions worth nearly Rs 19.6 million.
According to the Kathmandu District Police Office, a police team acting on a special tip-off apprehended the four suspects at around 6:00 pm on July 19 from Narayanchour, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-1.
Preliminary investigation shows the group was operating and participating in online betting through platforms including AW8, Khalti88, and 1xBet. Police said the suspects conducted transactions totaling Rs 19,600,549 through betting websites and mobile banking services.
During the operation, police seized four internet servers, 114 SIM cards, seven laptops, and 10 mobile phones, which are believed to have been used in the illegal operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as 20-year-old Tekendra Shahi of Kalikot, currently residing in Kathmandu, 26-year-old Bishwa Regmi of Bardiya, 23-year-old Ajay Mahatra of Bardiya, and 21-year-old Aditya Balmiki of Banke.
Police said the Kathmandu District Court has granted a five-day remand to keep the suspects in custody for further investigation into charges related to illegal online betting. Under Nepal's existing laws, online betting is prohibited.
