Paras Khadka Says Advertisements Seen in NPL Are Not Betting Brands

Kathmandu: Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) Secretary Paras Khadka said there will be no direct betting brand advertisements in the second season of the Nepal Premier League (NPL). He said surrogate advertisements will be seen instead. Speaking at a press conference on Saturday, he said this situation has emerged due to the lack of a clear legal definition and regulatory system for surrogate advertisements in Nepal.

CAN has faced criticism in the past for surrogate brands like One X Bat, Dafa News, and Wolf777 in earlier competitions. Responding to concerns about advertisements in the NPL, Secretary Khadka said, “All the brands that have been used are not betting brands, they are surrogates. CAN has not promoted betting in international matches, not only now, but also for the past 8–10 years.”

He pointed out the absence of a clear definition of surrogacy, related rules, and a monitoring mechanism in Nepal. “The exact definition of surrogacy has not been finalized. It is not clear what its rules are and what the monitoring system is,” Khadka said. “That is why the brands being used now are not betting brands.”

Khadka said CAN is fully following the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the guidelines of the Anti-Corruption Unit in all on-field activities. He said, “We cannot control the activities outside the ground, but we are moving forward according to the rules of the ICC in the activities on the ground.” He also said continuous coordination is underway with ICC representatives and agencies including the Nepal Police.
