Kathmandu: Karnali Yaks player Nandan Yadav has issued a clarification after facing criticism for his behavior with his team’s wicketkeeper, Deepak Dumre, in Friday’s match under the Nepal Premier League (NPL). Yadav denied the claims circulating on social media and said that Dumre is like his brother. He urged everyone to take the incident as normal sportsmanship.
A video that appears to show Nandan expressing anger toward wicketkeeper Deepak during the match between Karnali Yaks and Biratnagar Kings on Friday has gone viral. Netizens have criticized Nandan for allegedly abusing and insulting a junior player. Many said he should control himself, arguing that he got angry because of a lack of coordination in fielding and keeping during the match.
After the criticism grew, Nandan took to social media on Saturday to share his thoughts on the incident and asked people not to exaggerate it.
Yadav wrote, “First of all, I don’t need to explain how much I love and support Deepak Dumre. However, after seeing the meaningless videos and comments on social media, I felt the need to clarify. It was just a normal moment in the game, nothing serious.”
Yadav said he and Deepak grew up together since their academy days and that Deepak is like a brother to him. “We grew up together since the academy days. I know very well how much pressure is on a player when he plays his first game. I always want him to perform well and give his best at every moment.”
After that, Deepak also shared Nandan’s post and urged people not to make such videos. He wrote, “Dai and I have played together since the academy and Dai has always helped and supported me. He supported me a lot in yesterday's game too. What you see in that video is wrong, Dai was joking. I was under pressure and Dai boosted me up. Nandan Dai is like my big brother, so please don't make anyone feel bad by posting such videos.”
