Nepal Government Calls for Applications for Ambassadors to 14 Countries Under First-Ever Open Selection System

Kathmandu. The Government has, for the first time, opened ambassadorial positions for selection through an open competition process. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has formally invited applications from eligible Nepali citizens for the posts of ambassadors and permanent representatives.
On Thursday, the Ministry issued a public notice calling for applications for ambassadorial appointments to India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Israel, South Korea, Austria, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
Qualifications required to become an ambassador
According to the Diplomatic Appointment Directive, 2075, the minimum qualification to apply for the post of ambassador is a bachelor’s degree. Applicants must also demonstrate experience in Nepal’s foreign policy and international relations, strong proficiency in English, and a reputation for high moral character and ethical conduct.
Candidates must be Nepali citizens aged 35 years or above. They must not hold permanent or temporary residency or immigration status in any foreign country and must not have been dismissed from government service or declared ineligible for future public employment.
The Terms of Reference (TOR) further state that candidates with a master’s degree or higher in International Relations, Political Science, Law, Economics, Public Administration, or related fields will be given preference. Additional consideration will also be given to those with specialized training or certification in diplomacy, international trade, or multilateral negotiations.
How to apply?
The Ministry has stated that eligible individuals may apply for the ambassadorial positions themselves or may also be recommended by others. Applications and recommendations can be submitted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Applicants are required to submit a detailed personal statement along with their CV or Biodata, including comprehensive information on professional experience, academic qualifications, publications, and public service history.
According to the Ministry, only applications submitted by 5 p.m. on June 5 will be considered for participation in the selection process.
