Kathmandu: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has directed internet service providers (ISPs) to sell services only after obtaining official approval for their tariffs. The authority issued the instruction after suspecting that some ISPs were providing internet services without getting their service rates approved.
According to Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS, and the terms of the license, all internet (including email) service providers must have their service charges and tariff rates approved by the Authority before implementation. The law also requires ISPs to publish a public notice stating the date of approval before applying the new rates, ensuring transparency for customers.
“All Internet (including email) license service providers are hereby informed that they shall implement the fees and tariffs only after obtaining approval in accordance with Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act, 2053 BS. General consumers shall pay only the service charges and tariff rates approved by the Authority,” the NTA said in its notice.
