Government Fully Automates Re-Entry Labour Approval for Migrant Workers

Kathmandu. The Government of Nepal has fully automated the re-entry labour approval process for migrant workers, allowing eligible individuals to renew their labour permits online through the Foreign Employment Information Management System (FEIMS).
The reform has been introduced as part of the government's 100-point governance reform agenda and the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment’s 10-point action plan aimed at making foreign employment safer, more dignified and better managed.
While re-entry labour approvals for the same employer and destination country were previously processed through the system under certain conditions, under the new system, workers can apply for re-entry labour permits online from Nepal or from abroad. Required payments, including contributions to the Foreign Employment Welfare Fund, Social Security Fund and periodic life insurance, must be paid online.
A re-entry labour permit is required when a worker who has already gone abroad through legal channels seeks to continue working after the expiry of a previous labour permit, either with the same employer or a new company.
According to the Department of Foreign Employment, applicants must meet several conditions to qualify for automated approval. The application must be for the same country and employer for which labour approval was previously granted. Applicants must also have a passport valid for at least three months, a valid visa for the destination country and a valid employment contract.
The department has also made self-declaration regarding visa validity and employment contracts mandatory through the FEIMS platform.
Officials warned that workers who fail to renew their labour permits on time may lose eligibility for financial assistance from the Foreign Employment Board as well as insurance compensation in the event of an accident or death while working abroad.
The department has urged applicants to provide accurate information and documents while using the system, warning that service recipients will be held fully responsible for any false or incorrect submissions.
