Nepal Telecom Warns Public Against Rising SMS Phishing Scams

Kathmandu. Nepal Telecom has urged users to remain cautious of misleading SMS messages and phishing links being circulated using its SMS service.

The warning comes amid increasing attempts by fraudsters to scam users by sending fake messages in the names of banks and digital payment platforms, including Connect IPS.

According to Nepal Telecom, these messages often claim that a user’s account has been suspended, blocked, or is facing technical issues. Recipients are then directed to suspicious websites or phishing links under the guise of resolving the problem to steal sensitive personal and financial information.

The telecom operator has advised customers to verify any such messages through official websites or mobile applications of the concerned banks or financial institutions before taking action.

It has also urged users not to click on unknown or suspicious links and to avoid sharing sensitive information such as OTPs, passwords, PINs, or CVV numbers with anyone.

Nepal Telecom further stressed that all banking and digital payment services should be accessed only through official, verified channels.
