Man Arrested in Pyuthan for Cruel Treatment of Bull After Viral Video

Kathmandu. A man has been arrested in Pyuthan after a video showing alleged cruelty towards a bull went viral on social media.

The arrested individual has been identified as 36-year-old Jaliram Thapa Magar of Gaumukhi Rural Municipality–1 in Pyuthan district.

According to the District Police Office, Pyuthan, the video surfaced on social media four to five days ago, showing Magar plowing his field with bulls and allegedly striking them with a cart even after they became exhausted and unable to continue working.

Following the circulation of the video, police took Magar into custody on Thursday for further investigation into allegations of inhumane treatment of animals.

Police Inspector and Information Officer Hari Bhattarai said an investigation has been initiated against him under provisions related to unlawful treatment of animals as outlined in the National Penal Code, 2074 BS.

Authorities have confirmed that Magar has been remanded in custody by the District Administration Office, Pyuthan, for further investigation.
