Kathmandu. Prime Minister Balendra Shah “Balen” has expressed concerns over allowing Nepali citizens living abroad to vote through mobile platforms, saying the system could be vulnerable to external influence.
Speaking during a discussion with members of the House of Representatives on Sunday, the Prime Minister highlighted the issue of voting rights for Nepali citizens residing overseas.
Responding to a question raised by independent MP Dr. Mahabir Pun, Prime Minister Shah said there are currently two possible options under consideration for enabling voting rights for foreign-based Nepali people.
“Either arrangements should be made for voting at the concerned country’s embassy, or voting could be facilitated through mobile devices,” he said. “However, mobile voting carries a risk of influence. This is one of the reasons the issue was also delayed during the interim government period.”
He further said that the government would study the feasibility and security aspects of overseas voting arrangements ahead of the upcoming elections.
