Uber and TaxiMandu Sign Strategic Partnership to Launch Ride-Hailing Services in Nepal

Kathmandu. American multinational ride-hailing company Uber has entered into a strategic partnership with Nepali ride-hailing platform TaxiMandu to expand its services in Nepal, according to a company source.

An official at TaxiMandu said the agreement between the two companies was finalized about a week ago amid growing speculation surrounding Uber’s entry into the Nepali market. The official added that Uber is preparing to formally announce the partnership soon.

Uber had earlier hinted at its Nepal launch after sending emails to registered users on Tuesday (19 May), stating that its services had arrived in Kathmandu.

Under the partnership model, Uber’s global technology platform and application will operate in Nepal, while TaxiMandu will serve as the official local operational partner.

According to the source, work is currently underway to adapt Uber’s technology to Nepal’s geography and transportation environment. TaxiMandu will oversee domestic operations, including driver onboarding, technology testing, and launch preparations, while Uber will provide the technology infrastructure and system.

The service is expected to launch initially within the Kathmandu Valley, with plans to gradually expand to other major cities after operations are streamlined in the capital.

Industry observers believe Uber’s entry could particularly benefit foreign tourists visiting Nepal, as many international travelers are already familiar with and regularly use the Uber app in other countries.
